Preparations on for Grand Kerala Shopping Festival

About 11,000 shops and business establishments in the district are expected to participate in the Grand Kerala Shopping Festival (GKSF), sponsored by the State government, to be held here from December 1 to 15.

The event, modelled on the Dubai Shopping Festival, is aimed at boosting local trade and projecting Kerala as an international shopping destination. “This is not an exhibition in a marquee. Entrepreneurs and retailers participating in the event will get the Grand Kerala Shopping Festival branding. Festival arches and danglers will attract customers to shops. The event offers customers special schemes, big bargains and bumper prizes, including luxury cars, consumer durables and holiday packages, through lucky draw coupons.

The event, being held in all districts, coincides with the peak tourism season in Kerala.
In all, 84 cultural programmes are being planned as part of the festival. “Late-night shopping will be introduced. The festival aims at promoting gold and handloom sectors in the district.
